Nanobots replacing neurons (nerve cells), Beyond Man documentary, 2005

A nanorobot is at work in the human brain, replacing or augmenting human nerve cells with artificial (nanorobotic) nerve cells. As shown here, the nanorobot has docked to a neuron synapse and extended octopus-like arms around the neuronal connectors. (This is a still image from an HD animation that will air in 2006 on European public television as part of a 3-hour transhumanist documentary entitled "Beyond Man".)
Respirocytes Flowing Through a Blood Vessel

As originally envisioned and designed by Robert Freitas, this wonderfully detailed image shows respirocytes and red blood cells flowing through a blood vessel, most likely a small artery. In the foreground at left, we see a closeup of the respirocyte surface even including the sensor apertures and the individual rotating disks (containing active binding sites) comprising each of the thousands of sorting rotors. At lower right, we see another nearby respirocyte with its pumping station geometry and polar barcodes clearly visible.
